10 TOP TIPS TO STAY SAFE ON UK STREETS - Self Defence Tactics

In today's world, personal safety has become a real concern. Recent statistics from the UK paint a clear picture: street crime, though generally in decline, still poses a significant risk. The Office for National Statistics reported over 1.2 million incidents of violence alone in the year ending 2022. This startling figure shows the need for more awareness and being prepared.

At Combined Defensive Arts (CDA), we are committed to giving people the knowledge and skills for their safety, by teaching Self defence Tactics.

Here are our top 10 tips for staying safe on the streets of the UK:

Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Distractions like Phones can make you an easy target. Always keep your head up and be aware of your environment.

Trust Your Instincts: If a situation feels unsafe, trust your instincts. Avoid risky areas and situations whenever possible.

Keep Personal Items Secure: Carry bags close to your body and avoid showing valuables in public.

Learn Basic Self-Defence Techniques: Knowing a few simple yet effective techniques can make a real difference. Consider joining a class like those offered at CDA.

Use the Buddy System: There’s safety in numbers. Whenever possible, travel with a friend or in a group.

Plan Your Route: Know where you're going and the safest way to get there. Stick to well-lit, populated routes, especially at night time.

Keep Your Emergency Contacts Ready: Have a list of emergency contacts in your phone and think about carrying a physical list in case your phone is lost or out of battery.

Be Cautious with Strangers: Be polite, but maintain a healthy level of caution with people you don’t know.

Make Yourself Heard: If you feel threatened, don’t be afraid to shout or make a fuss. Drawing attention can often scare off an attacker.

Keep Informed About Your Area: Keep up-to-date with local news and community alerts about safety in your area.

At the CDA Academy, Head Instructor Lee and the team provide practical training that goes beyond just physical defence. Our Street Self Defence program is tailored to give you the skills and confidence needed to deal with dangerous situations. Remember, your safety is in your hands, and a little preparation can go a long way.
